Detection of Parasite and Virus in Grow Out of Hybrid Groupers (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus vs Epinephelus lanceolatus)

Abstract

The declining productivity of cantang grouper is influenced by the presence of pathogenic infections from viruses and parasites. Parasites can attack cantang grouper at all stages, while Iridovirus and Viral Nervous Necrosis (VNN) infections are serious diseases that can cause mass death in cantang grouper aquaculture. The purpose of this study was to obtain information on the incidence of disease in grouper rearing in ponds and in concrete tanks infected with parasitic and viral pathogens. Detection of parasites was carried out by taking 5 samples of cantang grouper kept in concrete tanks and in ponds with a density of 3 fish/m2 using macroscopic and microscopic methods, while iridovirus and VNN observations used the PCR method. The results showed that parasitic attacks were found during rearing, namely Epistylis sp. with a prevalence of 100% and an intensity of 146.6, Trichodina sp. with 100% prevalence and intensity. 104.4, Caligus sp., Diplectanum sp. During the study, no Iridovirus and VNN were detected in cantang groupers.
