Length Weight Relationship and Several Reproductive Aspects of Skipjack Tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis Linnaeus, 1758)
Abstract
The of skipjack are classified as a type having high economic value. The study purpose was to determine the growth pattern and some aspects of reproduction of skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis Linnaeus, 1758) so that it can be used as the basis for management strategy of skipjack tuna in Bone Bay. Sampling started from July to September 2022 at fishing-base fishermen, namely in Lonrae Village, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The research procedure included taking random samples and then storing them in a fish pond and then bringing the samples to the laboratory for analysis. The parameters and the methods in this study include the growth pattern of skipjack tuna by analyzing the length and weight, sex ratio by "Chi-Square" analysis, and gonadal maturity index by the Johnson method. The results showed that the regression coefficient b = 3.481 for the combined male and female fish, the regression coefficient b = 3.597 specifically for male fish and b = 3.419 specifically for female fish, then the results of the t test on b value showed t count > t table so that the skipjack tuna in this study is classified as having a positive allometric pattern. The condition factor of female skipjack tuna is higher than that of male fish, in the combined male and female the range is 1.12-2.10 (average 1.39), specifically for male fish is 1.12-2.1 (average 1.32) and the range is 1.19-1.80 (mean 1.50) in female skipjack tuna. . The gonadal maturity index of skipjack tuna males and females obtained values ranging from 1,176 – 3,448 and 1,795 – 4,16, respectively. Based on the gonad maturity stage observed during the study is still categorized as immature gonads.
