Exploration of Small-Scale Yellowfin Tuna Handline Fishing

Abstract

The information about condition of small-scale hand line tuna fisheries in several areas of Maluku, including in the North Buru waters are very limited so that must be explored. The objectives of this study are to analyze the condition of fishing fleet, the size composition of the catch, CPUE, and fishing season. Data collection was conducted from July to September 2019. The data that collected includes the amount of fishing fleet, position of fishing location, total length and weight of each individual catch, fishing trips. Besides that the data was obtained from MDPI foundation. The data was analyzed as descriptive in form of frequency distribution of total length, sequence table, mean value of total length, CPUE. The results show that the fishing boats is constructed by RFP, 15 HP outboard motor engine system. The dimensions of fishing boat is 8.04 m length, 1.29 m width and 0.6 m depth. The distance between fishing ground and fishing base ranges 5-30 nautical miles, the catches are dominated by yellow fin tuna and their size distributions are about 21-160 cm TL. The average catch is 6,782 kg/unit fishing boat/year or CPUE 56 kg/unit fishing boat/trip. Peak fishing seasons are January, May, July, November and December.
