Study of Changes in Mangrove Cover and Density Using Satellite Imagery
Abstract
Tanakeke Island is located in the Tanakeke Islands District, Takalar Regency, which is an area that has a fairly high diversity of mangrove ecosystems. The coastal area of the island is mostly surrounded by mangrove ecosystems, but in the last five (5) years it has decreased in area. This study aims to determine changes in mangrove cover and density on Tanakeke Island between 2017 and 2022. Data collection in this study was carried out in January-August 2022, located on Tanakeke Island, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi Province. This study uses the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method with analysis of Landsat 8 satellite imagery and overlays with the results of ground checks of the mangrove ecosystem. Results Based on the research, there were 11 types of mangroves found on Tanakeke Island, that is: Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizopohora mucronata, Sonneratia alba, Excoecaria agallocha, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Lumnitzera racemosa, Rhizophora apiculata, Avicennia alba, Heritiera acidula paludosa, Paludosa. GIS analysis found the area of mangrove forest on Tanakeke Island, namely in 2017 an area of 1792.76 ha, in 2018 an area of 1778.27 ha, in 2019 an area of 1768.42 ha, in 2020 an area of 1712.25 ha, in 2021 an area of 1686.43 ha and in 2022 covering an area of 1678.66 ha.
