Comparison of Catches of Red Snapper (Lutjanus malabaricus) on Different Bait

Abstract

Red snapper Lutjanus malabaricus is a fish from the Lutjanidae family with a reasonably wide area, including Pinrang waters. It can be caught with various types of fishing gear such as fishing gear longlines, hand lines, and traps. This study aims to compare the catch of red snapper on different lures so that the catching of red snapper can be more effective and efficient. 852 red snapper were collected randomly in Pinrang waters. The parameters observed included the composition of the catch and the distribution of length frequencies using four types of bait, namely anchovy, mackerel scad, sardine, and shrimp. Data were analyzed descriptively and displayed in tables and graphs. The results showed that the most catch of red snapper was obtained from shrimp bait with 305 (36%) and the least from fly bait, namely as many as 143 heads (16%). The length distribution of red snapper ranging from 17-67 cm with the highest frequency of 89 in the range of length 57-67 cm from shrimp bait and the lowest nine tails in the range of length 17-26 cm from fly bait. Red snapper Lutjanus malabaricus prefers shrimp than other bait.
